NSP funds still available for foreclosed, abandoned homes The City of Sterling Heights, through the use of Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) funds, is offering down payment assistance and a housing rehabilitation program to income eligible homebuyers to purchase foreclosed or abandoned single-family residential homes.

Two county sewer projects ready to get underway Residents and businesses in the 15 Mile Road and Dodge Park Road section of Sterling Heights are being advised that two sanitary sewer interceptor construction projects will soon get underway in the area.

Sterling Heights Developer Donates Building for Northern Macomb-OU INCubator Campus Developer Michael Damman of the A.J. Damman Co. in Troy, MI has donated an office building, valued at $3.5 million, to the city’s Local Development Finance Authority (LDFA) to be used as a future northern campus for the Macomb-OU INCubator.

City seeks artwork for public display The Sterling Heights Cultural Commission is seeking applicants for the city’s Artist of the Month program.

Council approves two-week extension on SHAP purchase talks The Sterling Heights City Council this week approved a two-week extension giving Chrysler until Feb. 16 to provide a purchase agreement for the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP). Chrysler is required to purchase the plant in order to receive the transfer of two current tax abatements.

Help send the Challengers wheelchair basketball team to national competition The Sterling Heights Challengers junior wheelchair basketball team is holding a bowling fundraiser Saturday, March 6 with all proceeds going to cover expenses for the team to compete in the 2010 National Varsity Championship in Denver in April.

Sterling Heights Employees/Unions Approve Concessions In an effort to save the city $1.2 million, nine City of Sterling Heights employee unions have approved concessions including four unpaid furlough days and four unpaid holidays. The eight unpaid days equates to a 3% reduction in employee salaries. Due to the specialized service delivery performed by public safety employees, unique terms were also approved with the Sterling Heights Fire Fighters Union achieving an equivalent 3% wage savings.

Police launch new citizen alert system The Sterling Heights Police Department is launching a new way to alert residents about public safety issues and to receive anonymous tips from the community.

Parks & Rec plan available at library The 2010 - 2015 Sterling Heights Parks and Recreation Plan will be at the Sterling Heights Public Library from Jan. 15 through Feb. 15 for public review and comment.
